Description
Heavy Metal Scrap (HMS) is a high-density recyclable steel and wrought iron scrap derived from dismantled or demolished structures and equipment. It is classified into two main categories: HMS 1, which consists of heavier, thicker steel scrap free from galvanized and blackened coatings with a minimum thickness of 1/4 inch (6.35 mm), and HMS 2, which comprises lighter steel scrap including galvanized and blackened materials with a minimum thickness of 1/8 inch (3.175 mm). HMS scrap is typically cut to standardized sizes for efficient handling and furnace charging, making it a preferred choice for steel mills and foundries. Known for its strength, durability, and consistent size, HMS scrap plays an essential role in steel manufacturing and recycling due to its high density and cost-effectiveness.
